POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Major Gifts and Planned Giving Coordinator Immediate Opening (October 2017) The Coordinator of Major Gifts and Planned Giving is an essential member of a two-person team that is responsible for securing $1.25 million in major gifts in the 2018 fiscal year and increasing financial support from major givers ($10,000+), legacy donors and endowment donors to support the Symphony’s mission and programs. Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving the Coordinator of Major Gifts and Planned Giving takes a lead role in prospect research, donor relations, reporting, scheduling and database entry for the major gifts and planned giving programs. The Coordinator of Major Gifts and Planned Giving serves as a prospect researcher for the Philanthropy Department, and helps coordinate the Symphony’s stewardship and recognition of our highest level supporters. POSITION: Coordinator of Major Gifts and Planned Giving DEPARTMENT: Philanthropy REPORTS TO: Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving REPORTING POSITIONS: CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time/Non-Exempt MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Research major gifts prospects and prepare in-depth profiles for the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving, in support of developing a robust pipeline of prospective donors. • Guide preparation of research profiles and prospect review meetings. • Coordinate and support the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving, the Vice President of Philanthropy and the CEO in campaign planning and execution. • Support the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving in creating proposals, donor meetings, donor relations, and sending appeals, acknowledgement letters and general correspondence in a timely fashion. • Provide support for the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving through maintenance of proposal and sponsorship calendars, scheduling visits, major gifts prospect database, phone back-up, file maintenance, and handling of individual donor ticketing, parking and other VIP benefits and requests • Provide up-to-date reporting on fundraising progress and contacts with donors to the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving and the Vice President of Philanthropy and manage the entry of reports into the database. • Work collaboratively with department members to track major, planned, estate and endowment gifts, to ensure proper donor recognition and stewardship • Assist in planning and execution of all individual concert sponsor events as well as individual donor cultivation and stewardship events, supervise volunteers, and represent the Philanthropy team at these events. Participate in concert duty on a regular basis. • Work with the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving to develop the North Carolina Symphony’s planned giving program and Lamar Stringfield Society legacy group including management of digital and hardcopy mailings. • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to carry out strategies and activities to increase patron value, loyalty and engagement • Assist with the development and/or preparation of printed materials, digital materials, meeting information, patron event items as requested and in support of the Philanthropy Department’s work, with a focus on Major Gifts and Planned Giving The duties listed above are not all inclusive. The person in this position is expected to perform other work-related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties. QUALIFICATIONS: • Knowledge of non-profit fundraising strategies, operations and procedures • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in fundraising, prospect research and/or donor relations • Superior verbal and written communication skills • Strong interpersonal, relationship and customer service skills • Excellent judgement and professionalism in dealing with people, being collaborative, responsive and supportive • Demonstrated success working with high level donors and trustees • Strong research, analytical, planning, and organizational skills, and superior attention to detail • Ability to function at a high level under deadline pressure • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, taking responsibility for the completion of each by its respective deadline • Self-motivated and enthusiastic with ability to work independently • Team-oriented, flexible, positive, personable and willing to learn • Must be able to support and implement the mission, vision and values of the North Carolina Symphony; knowledge of and interest in orchestral music is a plus • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint • Familiarity with a donor database such as Archtics is a plus • Ability to travel and work outside traditional office hours • Bachelor’s degree required Career Level: Entry-level
